Merry Christmas!
You can always depend on the kindness of strangers...
Ok. Maybe not. But today was a heartwarming sorta day. Which was sweet because it's Christmas Eve. I'm finding it very hard to make it feel Christmas-y being so far from home and my family. It just doesn't feel like Christmas to me really, but at the same time it's still sweet. We have our tree up and we even have a bunch of Christmas cards from friends on our entertainment unit. (Thank you everyone! You've made it feel like a home around here!) There's a good supply of presents under the tree, which is really cool...and there's freshly baked cookies and more presents to be wrapped. There's stockings hanging on our fire place and we have a fire going. (Ok they're candles.) It smells yummy in here and there's not much more we could ask for really. I wish I was home, but not every year can be the same for the rest of my life, right? We'll video tape, we'll take pics and I know they'll do the same at home. We'll have Christmas in February! It'll be awesome.
But back to today...I made some cookies and told the guys at work I'd bring them some today since they had to work and I didn't. Hehe. I had to get a few photos printed anyway and needed to buy a few more little things for people. So I took the seabus across the pond and went downtown to drop off the cookies. They all loved them and were so sweet. One of the guys even though he wasn't there had left me a present! Aw! So sweet. I dunno what it is yet though, apparently I'm not supposed to open it til tomorrow! He wasn't there so I'll take him some more cookies on Boxing Day. The guys were all so sweet, so that was fun. I went and got all the things I needed/wanted and some extra. Found some cute presents for others I had trouble deciding on before. Perfect! I went back and wished everyone at the store Merry Christmas and picked up my photos...then headed backed to the seabus and I had some time so I stopped at Starbucks to get a hot chocolate. But I had next to no cash on me and they weren't taking debit! So I turned around and asked the lady behind me if she knew if there was a cash machine in the Station, she didn't know and suggested some of the stores in Gastown but said they charge like so much to take cash out that way. So I said thanks and was like, Oh well, I guess I don't need a drink that badly! And sorta laughed (because I really didn't, lol.) But much to my surprise she gave me two dollars and some change and told me to buy a drink!! I couldn't believe how sweet she was. I told her she really didn't have to do that and she said sometimes we do things we don't have to and have a Merry Christmas. So sweet! I couldn't say thank you enough, it was just so touching. What a nice lady. I felt bad though because I'm carrying all this shopping and really not looking like I shouldn't have money, haha.
I decided (although I was really going to do it anyway) to pay it forward and do C's laundry for her...and I was going to give the guy playing violin on the walkway some money, but I still didn't have any other change, haha. So I will next time.
So to that lady and everyone else...
